Is it okay to trek alone?
While trekking alone can be a great way to get to know the country though safety-wise, it is generally not better idea to go trekking alone or without joining the trekking company. Should I trek with an agency?

Do I need a trekking permit?
Only your visa to Nepal is not good enough to trek those areas, which are indicated as control trekking areas by Nepal Government. Should I hire a porter and / or a guide?
Hiring a porter and / or a guide can add greatly to your trek experience in Nepal, especially if this is your first time in Nepal it is better to having a guide and a porter to get necessary information as well as carry your load. But you should have to connect with any registered trekking agencies to hiring the guide and porter, as they are professionals to offer the quality services. Trekking company will give you guarantee, as they will not be disappearing before completing your trip. Make sure you agree upon the wage before hiring one. You can ask any licensed local trekking agency in Kathmandu to find one for you. You can also find them in bigger settlements along your trekking route.

If you decide to hire a porter and / or a guide, remember that you are their employer and thus should take full responsibility. You must make sure they have adequate clothes and other gear necessary for the trek. It is your responsibility to rent the gear for them. It is also your responsibility to take care of their medical requirements if they fall sick during the trek.
