Mt. Cho Oyu (8,201m.) Expedition

Lying some 20 km west of Mount Everest, at the border between China and Nepal Mt. Cho Oyu (meaning: Turquoise Goddess in Tibetan) is the sixth highest mountain in the world.  Attempted firstly in 1952 by an team led by Eric Shipton (born in Ceylon and educated in England) as preparation for an attempt on Mt. Everest a year later which proved to be technically too difficult owing to an ice cliff above 6650 meter, it was first successfully climbed by an Austrian Expedition team led by Herbert Tichy in 1954 simultaneously becoming the fifth 8000 metre peak to be climbed, after Annapurna in June 1950, Mount Everest in May 1953, Nanga Parbat in July 1953 and K2 in July 1954. Its towering peak stands with Mt. Everest well above the surrounding mountains. It became a familiar landmark to climbers ascending Everest’s North face.

Cho Oyu is known to be one of the easier of the world's fourteen 8.000 meter mountain. This is because the ascent to the summit is short and direct, with a few small technical sections climbed in safety using fixed ropes. Just a few kilometers west of Cho Oyu is Nangpa La (5,716m/18,753ft), a glaciated pass that serves as the main trading route between the Tibetans and the Khumbu's Sherpas. Due to its proximity to this pass and the generally moderate slopes of the standard northwest ridge route, some climbers consider Cho Oyu to be the easiest 8,000 metre peak to climb which these days is becoming a popular objective for mountaineers.

Mt. Cho Oyu is the most popular 8000m. Peak for climbing in Tibet. The mountain would be the best choice for the mountaineers who want to stand on the summit of 8000 meter peak due to its straight forward climbing with minimal objective danger and less technically demanding. Cho Oyu climbing has the higher rate of success than any other 8000 meter peak climbing in Nepal & Tibet. We arrange both the logistic support to ABC and fully guided Cho Oyu expedition. Cho-Oyu is an achievable undertaking for intermediate climbers who wish to attempt an 8,000m peak. The expedition provides a perfect entrance into the world of high-altitude Himalayan climbing. The sixth highest mountain in the world, Cho-Oyu lies in the heart of the Tibetan/Nepalese Himalayas and offers climbers views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and literally hundreds of other Himalayan peaks. The expedition exposes climbers to the ancient culture of Tibet.
