Pokhalde is quite a complex mountain,
although its basic situation is simple; it's a section
of the long tapering SW Ridge of Nuptse South of Kongma
Tse with the Kongma La dividing the two. This pass
is used as a yak route between grazing at Chhukung
and the Khumbu. Although below 6000m and 20000ft the
view is reward enough for a few hours scrambling.
The lake below the Kongma La is a good spot for BC.
From here the route is up a steep but straightforward
trail. The last 50 meters to the top is rather steep
so may need a rope
Adventure begins with a brief flight to Lukla, and
next day taking an easy walk to a bustling Namche
Bazaar. Before our explorations of the high valleys
of Khumbu…. This unique itinerary takes us into
high and deep valleys, providing magnificent view
of the breathtaking sky soaring peaks. All the way
we get wonderful opportunity for having the close
views of the famous and interesting mountain peaks
including-Gokyo Ri (5,496 m.), Kala Pattar (5,634
m.), Pokhalde (5,806 m.), Island Peak (6,199 m.),
Cho-Oyu (8,201 m.), Lhotse (8,516 m.), Makalu (8,463
m.) and the Mt. Everest (8,848 m.) - the world's No.
1 greatest mountain on earth, and you can feel proud
to yourself with the knowledge that many of the world's
famous climbers once upon a time have passed this
way.
You enter the awesome Valley - the magical Imja Khola
Valley crossing a high Pass called the Kongma La (5,520
m.). You will be camping just below this Pass for
easy access and to enable you to climb the 5,806 meter
high Pokalde. The climb is relatively easy with a
scramble to the rocky summit and there be regretless
as you can enjoy the stunning best views of the Mt.
Everest, Makalu, Cho-Oyu, Pumori Lhotse and Nuptse,
which we ever had expected.

Fly from Kathmandu to
Lukla (2,827 m.). You will be taken to the airport
for one of the great
flights of the Himalaya. If the sky is clear during
your flight, you will get your first views of
the Mt. Everest. The aircraft will take you to
the hillside village of Lukla, the starting point
of your trek. Here you'll meet your camp staff
and the porters and set off straight away for
Chumoa, situated on the bank of the Dudh Kosi
River, which drains the whole of the Khumbu and
stay overnight at camp or lodge in Phakding (2,652m.)
|
04 |
you continue up the
banks of the Dudh Kosi River, crossing it twice
by small suspension bridges,
before reaching the village of Monjo, which is
the entrance to the Khumbu National Park. You
then cross the confluence of the Dudh Kosi and
Bhote Kosi rivers on a high suspension bridge
and climb steeply for about two hours to Namche
Bazaar. This is a prosperous trading town and
is the capital of the Khumbu region. Many Tibetans
cross the nearby border to trade their wares and
the local market is a fascinating spectacle. This
is a good place to buy genuine Tibetan artifacts
in Namche Bazaar (3,446m.) |
05 |
Rest day. You can spend
a day in Namche Bazaar, resting and allowing your
bodies to become more acclimatized. Enjoying the
fantastic views, as just across the valley stands

06 |
Today your route is
slightly longer to Khunde a small neighboring
village situated near to a largest
village called Khumjung in the Khumbu region.
From Namche it's a steep one and a half hour climb
up to the Shyangboche airstrip then the trail
heads for the chorten on the top of the hill,
down through the forests further descending to
the village of Khumjung situated at the foot of
a sacred peak called the 'Khumbila' 5,761m. high.
Since the YETI legend still continues, the Khumjung
village Gompa possesses the skull of a Yeti! In
this village you can also see the original Hillary
school. The Sherpa children from the village and
surrounding areas get good primary education from
this school. From this village we only have to
detour a short distance to reach to Khunde. At
Khunde you have this wonderful opportunity of
visiting the great Hospital site. Khunde Hospital
is famous and the Himalayan Trust from the very
beginning now for its great services to the local
people and the outsiders alike and the hospital
itself is maintaining well renown. Pangboche (3,900m.) |
07 |
From Khunde, you ahead
down the valley, passing through the Mani stonewalls
and chorten
continuously. The trail leads us further through
small settlements and the interestingly driven
prayer wheels by the force of water, toward the
banks of Dudh Kosi to Phunki. After three hours
of climb again, we then reach to the popular Tengboche.
As the legend goes - Lama Sangye Dorji the incarnate
of the Rongbuk monastery in Tibet, flew over the
Himalaya and landed here at Tengboche and has
introduced the Buddhism in this Khumbu region.
So has the Tengboche monastery been active in
Khumbu. Pheriche (4,250m.) |
08 |
You ascend steeply through
woods, along the banks of Imja Khola and climb
steadily to the
village of Pheriche, directly opposite the inspiring
Ama Dablam. Pheriche is a good two hours walk
beyond and is situated beneath the impressive
spires of Cholatse (6,440m.) and Taboche (6,542m.).
Lobuje (4,943m.) |
09 |
You continue up the
wide valley beneath the impressive peaks of Cholatse
(6,440m.) and Taboche
(6,542m.) on the left. We then turn right and
climb more steeply towards the foot of the Khumbu
Glacier. The teahouse at Dughla is a good lunch
spot, before the steep climb zigzagging up through
the boulders of the glacier terminal moraine.
The top of this climb is heralded by numerous
stone cairns-memorable to the many Sherpas who
have died while climbing on Mount Everest. The
path then continues more easily on the left side
of the glacier, to eventually reach the cluster
of teahouses at Lobuje. |
10/11 |
We spends a day, resting,
physically to become more fit and acclimatized
to the altitude. Next
day, in the early morning after tea/coffee and
with your packed lunch, climbing starts towards
